Sort of a gruesome stop, and we didn’t spend much time here (and this post won’t be long…). Pashupainath is a Hindu temple on the banks of a local river where observant Hindus bring their deceased family members for cremation.
As you can see here, wood is stacked in preparation.
The deceased are brought to their pyre.
And then set on fire.
Different view.
A minder tends to the pyre until the process is completed and then the ashes are swept into the river.
The smoke drove us away quite quickly and honestly it’s not a place you’d linger, although important to cultural understanding and important to experience.

Fascinating look into their mourning ritual! Do the relatives and friends stay until the body is completely consumed? Was there an odd smell on the air? Any idea what they do after the burning?
So interesting! Do people swim in that river??
It doesn’t look like they do, it’s fairly shallow.
