Our last day in Tokyo was a little disrupted by Typhoon Trami. The Metro closed early, shops and restaurants closed, etc. It was expected to hit Tokyo with force, but fortunately did not. In fact we’re not even sure there was a storm as we woke up to bright sunny skies and a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji.
Our flight was planned to leave Narita at 10:45 and the train ride from Shinjuku is nearly two hours. Adding checkin, security, passport control meant we needed to leave the Park Hyatt at around 6:30. Ugh.

But after a sleepy train ride we checked in at the private JAL checkin area for First Class that also included a private screening area. We were through the gauntlet in fewer than 10 minutes and at the JAL First Class lounge relaxing before our flight.
We had a great view of our aircraft.
Our eastbound flight was set up to be a lunch flight and as with any JAL flight they offered a choice between a Japanese menu and a Western menu. Here are some pics of the menus:

I chose the Western menu (it just sounded better!}, while Jeff had the Japanese menu.
We started with a shrimp and iceberg salad that was so fresh.
Followed by a blue lobster soup. Yum.
And then dessert which was something grand that tasted delicious!
A compote of jelly and granita of Kyoho grape along with dried fruit ice cream. It was gone before I could even say what it was.
Sadly Jeff forgot to take pictures of his meal so we have nothing to share there.
Now for the moment that everyone has been waiting for – the contest winner!
We had said that we wanted folks to guess how many steps we took on our trip based on Alex’s Apple Watch. Guesses ranged between 168,000 and 258,023 steps.
The news is everyone guessed high, so we’ll have to go with who is closest. One clever boots lowered her guess based on the idea that we would be spending a good time traveling. She was right!
The final step tally was 157,286 and the closest guess was by Mary Therese – 168,000! We brought a lovely bauble home from Bhutan for the winner. Thanks for playing!
