We’re here! After a quick connection in HEL (Helsinki), we arrived safely in super cool, sunny Copenhagen.
After marching through the madness that was the airport on a Friday afternoon plus a cab ride, we arrived at our home for the next few days. We’re at a super fun hotel in the central city and our room has a terrace with a view.
One of our missions while we’re in Scandinavia is to sample the famous smørrebrød, or open-faced sandwiches. So a quick shower and change and we set out to find those plus a cocktail to put us to sleep.
Our hotel is on Sankt Peders Street which is in Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter. Latin as in the language, not as in Latin America.
The street was almost completely destroyed by the ruinous Copenhagen Fire of 1785. It was rebuilt post-fire and now houses a college.
Lots of shops, restaurants, and whimsical touches on Sankt Peders.
We soon found our place at Gråbrødretorv Square.
We were in that not hungry/but hungry phase so we split the restaurant’s offering of smørrebrød.
Don’t let anyone ever force shrimp salad on you without sliced egg and caviar mixed in ever again! Washed down with an Aperol spritz and it was the perfect stop.
Off we went for our nightcap at Balderdash, one of the bars named as a best in Copenhagen.
We found exactly what we were looking for and after an appropriate amount of time (wheels almost came off the wagon!), we headed home to our hotel.
Amazingly it was still light out at 9:40 in the evening!
