Our last stop for the day was a place in central Kathmandu called the “Garden of Dreams”. The gardens were built in 1920 as a respite from the bustle of Kathmandu and were considered to be among the most sophisticated private gardens in the world at the time. At some point it was gifted to the government of Nepal but fell into disrepair until the early 2000’s when they were fully renovated.
There is a small entrance fee but the gardens were filled with people lying on the grass and sunning themselves or reading so it still must be a popular place to get away from the bustle of Kathmandu.
They aren’t large – you certainly can walk the grounds in fewer than 15 minutes – but they are beautiful.
There are benches placed throught the gardens so if you’d like to sit and relax you certainly can do that.
We did just that but were ready to head home after a full day.
Tomorrow we are hiring a driver to take us to the third Durbar Square in the Kathmandu Valley, as well as Nagarkot. Nagarkot is a village high in the foothills of the Himalayas where, if you’re lucky, you can steal a peek at Mt. Everest. Fingers crossed!
