This market was high on our list because it is so unique. The entire market straddles the train tracks that the passenger train travels to Maeklong. We the train slows when it nears the station it passes through the vendors that are selling their wares along the tracks. Moments before the train passes through the market a warning is sounded and the vendors in unison roll up their tarps and umbrellas and retract their merchandize, leaving just enough room for the train to pass without touching their wares.
You can see a video of this amazing little human event right here.
Unfortunately for us, the trains are not running right now. They will start up again after the New Year, but nothing for us today. So we decided since we’re here we’d go to the market anyway – all we’d be missing were the trains and the market looked lively enough and there were zero tourists around. Here you can see how they’ve set up around the tracks.
So off we went to explore this market – and we were rewarded with some great photos and warm memories of the shopkeepers who were quite happy to have customers.
