The word that keeps coming to mind about this flight on Cathay Pacific is “elegant”.
Looks cozy, doesn’t it? |
The cabin is bathed in warm lights and beige tones. The red carpet in the aisle is plush, and the carpet within each suite is even plusher.
The view from the seat |
The cabin service is professional and attentive. Meals mimic fine dining on the ground, nothing is served on trays.
The cabin is very quiet — the only thing you hear is the ambient flying noise.
The amount of personal space is staggering — I’d say around 25 square feet. In each suite you have a three foot wide seat that has a pull down cushioned arm rest, an ottoman, a personal closet, a 17″ LCD screen, and three windows to look outside through.
The bedding is made with 500 count Egyptian cotton threads, and each bed is made with a duvet. It makes for a very cozy bed.
Pajamas are provided by PYE, a Hong Kong design house.
The ammenity kit for men is from Zegna and contains Aesop products — including what could be the most wonderful lip moisturizer I have ever encountered.
The flight attendants are just perfection — friendly and, well, attentive. Bose noise-cancelling headphones are given at the beginning of the flight.
In the washroom are more Aesop products, including a “facial refresh” product that I’ve made a mental note to find when home. Even on your way to the washroom, Cathay has thoughtfully designed a pathway between curtains so that you don’t disturb the flight attendants in the galley and so that they don’t disturb you.
Here’s something strange: in my life, which has probably included hundreds of flights, I have never purposely pressed the flight attendant call button. On Cathay, it is expected. You press the button, not a single noise is made, and almost instantly a flight attendant comes running to see what you’d like.
Overall, extraordinarily relaxing, comforting, comfortable, and pampering. 10 hours have gone by and it feels like three. Only problem so far is an inability to sleep! I don’t want to miss a minute and am hyper-entertained. Sort of like when you can’t turn off the TV late at night cause you’re not yet sleepy and there’s this really good movie on. Except there’s someone who will bring you stuff from the fridge when you press a button.
