We managed to pre-select and book four great restaurants for our four nights in London.
First night was Modern Pantry, which we blogged about earlier. The other three nights we had reservations at Balthazar, Brasserie Zedel, and Petrus.
Balthazar is a really fun, classic French bistro by way of New York (it’s really a New York restaurant with a London location). The food was really solid, and the room was a perfect see-and-be-seen room with precise lighting that makes everyone look good. I can see why this place is super popular in New York.

Next we dined at Brasserie Zedel, which is an excellent replica of any large brasserie you might find in Paris — like La Coupole or similar. It had a great menu, and our meals were great.

Last night we dined at Petrus.
It’s a Gordon Ramsey restaurant and it’s famous for hosting the incident several years ago where a few London bankers spend thousands of pounds on champagne and generally made a nuisance of themselves before their employer found out and fired them.
Our visit to Petrus hasn’t yet resulted in anything newsworthy, but we did have a tremendous meal. I had duck and Jeff had grouse. Yes, grouse. We had the wine pairing with the meal and enjoyed each and every selection by the sommelier.
If anyone is interested, I took pictures of the bottles so can tell you what we had. I will say that our amuse bouche was paired with a glass of Krug. See how it comes full circle?
Our amise bouche with glasses of Krug. Don’t you love the coupes?
Here is a server carving Jeff’s grouse.
