During our first morning game drive at Savuti, we came upon a pride of lions that were resting after killing and eating a small giraffe. The kill had happened the day before but they were still feasting on the giraffe.

There were a total of seven lions in the pride and they all looked quite well fed. You can see just how close we were – the vertical bar in on the right side of the photo is a piece of the safari truck we were sitting in.

Even so when a small mongoose tried to snack on the giraffe, one of the lions got quite agitated.

The incredible thing about this is that we were within feet of the lions the whole time. At one point it seemed as though we could reach out and pet a lion.

We stayed and observed the lions for quite some time before we moved on.
