Our total journey time from Chicago to our first multi-night stop is 34 hours and 55 minutes. We are flying Chicago-Doha-Johannesburg-Livingstone. That final stop is in Zambia — ZAMBIA!
Livingstone is #4 on the maps. The map above is zoomed out so that you can see how far we’re traveling – it’s more than 22,000 miles in total.
Once we’re in Livingstone we’re staying at a “camp” that is located on the Zambezi River. Our “room” will have a view of the river with hippos and cros and birds of all sorts. We will also spend a day at Victoria Falls, which has been a lifelong dream.
Here’s a zoomed in map of our stops once we arrive in southern Africa.
Stop 5 is a place called Savuti and it’s located in the Chobe National Park. It’s know for being able to see lots of elephants. The camp even has an elephant blind near a watering hole where you can be up close with those gentle giants.
Stop 6 will be our final safari stop at a camp called Vumbura Plains. It is located in the Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta (or Okavango Grassland) in Botswana is a swampy inland delta formed where the Okavango River reaches a trough in the central part of the basin of the Kalahari. All the water reaching the delta is ultimately evaporated and transpired and does not flow into any sea or ocean. The Okavango Delta is known as one of Africa’s last remaining great wildlife habitat and provides refuge to huge concentrations of game.
“We want to thank our dear friends Debbie and Brian for helping make this trip happen”
Stop 7 is just a pit stop at the airport in a place called Maun, where we’ll pick up our flight to Cape Town.
Stop 8 is Cape Town, where we’ll be staying at a small hotel on the beach in an area called Camps Bay. We plan to do all the things one does in Cape Town including a visit to Table Mountain as well as the Cape of Good Hope.
Our last stop is in the winelands east of Cape Town. We’ve booked ourselves to stay at a winery in the Napa Valley of South Africa. This area is known for it’s stunning white wines, especially Chenin Blanc.
And then we fly home Cape Town-Doha-Chicago! We’ve got lots planned and are totally excited to be visiting this part of Africa. We want to thank our dear friends Debbie and Brian for helping make this trip happen – without their advice and Brian’s infinite patience with us asking a billion questions, this trip would have never happened. They would be happy to help you book an African safari too – here is their website: http://leopardadventures.com.
We hope you join us!
