We’re really going to do it. Africa has always seemed like one of those aspirational trips that you might never get to because it’s too hard. Just getting there is tough, let alone traveling within the continent. Plus if you really want to see wild animals then you have to head out into the bush and we’re just not campers.
“Join us at the end of May for this trip”
Enter our friends Debbie and Brian who were kind enough to guide us forward. They are both Africa experts and have been many times. Brian actually arranges Africa safaris for his clients. So one night, after a lot of wine, we were convinced that Africa was not only doable but we were going to do it!
The itinerary came together in no time. First stop will be Victoria Falls, which has been a life long dream to see.
Immediately after Victoria Falls we begin our safari adventure at a camp on the Zambezi River called Toka Leya.
We’re hoping to see rhinoceros at Toka Leya as that location sometimes is favored by a herd. It’s unlikely but sure would be great.
From Toka Leya we travel by bush plane to the Chobe National Park where our next camp is located.
This is Savuti and it is known for its elephant herds. The general itinerary each day is a morning game drive to see the morning animals and birds, then relax around camp most of the day (swim, nap, etc), followed by an evening game drive to see the animals that come out later.
This is followed by dinner and star gazing until you pass out.
Once we leave Savuti we’re off to the Okavango Delta, which during part of the year is an inland sea that is created by the runoff from the rainy season in the Angolan mountains to the north.
This is what the view from our room will be like. In addition to game drives you may also join little canoe tours to see the smaller wildlife that inhabits the water. Otherwise the same daily itinerary of game drives, swimming, and naps.
Once we leave the bush we head off to Cape Town, which is said to be one of the most stunning cities on earth. We will be staying a few days on Camps Beach, which looks like this.
Then we finish our trip in the South African wine country near Stellenbosch in a small village called Franschhoek. We will be staying on the grounds of a vineyard and will have time to explore the area before we leave.
We’re really excited about this trip as we think it will be unlike anything we’ve done before. I know we’ll gasp the first time we see something like this.
Join us at the end of May for this trip. We can’t wait to share our pictures with you.
