One meal we wanted to try was the famous Korean BBQ. We’ve had it before, the last time on a memorable and raucous night in Seattle with our friends Chris and Arnell, but until you’ve had it in Seoul you can’t be sure you’ve really tried the authentic version.
Turns out the BBQ part has been pretty close but the “banchan”, or side dishes that embellish the grilled meats are decidedly better in Seoul. In the picture above you see steamed eggs, mushroom slices, blanched perillo leaves, kimchee, tofu, a salad with a sesame dressing that caused you to involuntarily moan, and on and on. So many flavors!
And the idea is that you take some sesame leaves, add some protein, and then whatever banchan you fancy, roll it up, and start eating. Simply delightful.
