What a terrific stop we had in Oman. We feel so fortunate to have experienced what we did and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a trip there.
Muscat is about 75 minutes by air from the United Arab Emirates and/or Qatar. Which means you can fly from the U.S. to Dubai on Emirates, Abu Dhabi on Etihad, or Doha on Qatar Airways and then connect. Infinitely more interesting than the UAE, make the effort and go to Oman if you’re planning a trip to the Middle East.
To get to Vienna we flew Qatar Airways via Doha in Business Class using AAdvantage miles. Super comfortable flights on their brand new 787-800 aircraft.
It was exceedingly comfortable but the highlight was our connection at the new Hamad International Airport. It is gigantic – this was our walk to the transit hall. Not sure if you can actually see that far in the picture!
In the center of the terminal they have placed a sculpture of a giant teddy bear.
It’s rumored to have cost $3 million. But the real jewel of the stopover was the Qatar Business Class lounge. As you take the escalator up to the lounge there is a Times Square-style news feed that beams out nothing but positive or thoughtful messages.
And then once you arrive upstairs you’re presented with this reflecting pool.
It really made for a peaceful and relaxing connection at Doha.
