Last time we were in Hong Kong we blasted through it and saw every tourist site they tell you to see. This time we chose to do nothing but hang. We thought we had seen everything of note, but over cocktails in the Grand Hyatt Lounge a couple from Denver told us about a nunnery attached to a garden they had seen that was magnificent.
The nuns have cloistered here since 1934, so they have had some time to cultivate some beautiful plants. Look at these two (more in a minute).
First the bougainvillea that were all over the place. Focus on the trunk (then the flowers).
And how about this Chinese arborvitae.
Sensational plants. They really are the best thing about the nunnery aside from the buddhist prayer rooms where we couldn’t take photos. Totally free and worth the time if you’ve already seen the main Hong Kong sights.
Right next door is a garden that is maintained by the nunnery and is a little treausre in a very big city.
Even the koi were interesting.
