Westminster Abbey is as beautiful as always. Such a rich history packed into a single place! We didn’t read all of the crypts but did see Charles Darwin, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth I, and King Henry VII.
The real show, of course, is seen by looking up to the soaring buttresses and the stained glass windows. We managed to grad a few furtive pictures (so a little blurry and off-center) from inside and some lovely photos from the outside.
Remembrance Day was just this week so all over London you see flowers and wreaths placed around monuments to veterans. Outside Westminster Abbey there was an entire forest of crosses that surrounded the Abbey, each with someone’s name written on it. A very moving tribute.
Here is a closeup of what they looked like.
And then we went inside. Here we are looking back towards the Nave at the rear of the church.
The Quire.
Looking from the Quire towards the Sanctuary where coronations take place.
The stained glass windows that surround the Nave.
The steps leading up to Henry VII’s resting place.
And then finally outside as we exited the Abbey.
