Wow, the day has finally arrived! A trip we’ve been planning for nearly a year, and it has all come together for this moment. At 3:00p tomorrow we depart.
We originally chose to fly Cathay Pacific because they seemed to have a great First Class cabin. It is one of the original airlines from the “romantic” era of the airline business along with other international luminaries such as Pan Am and BOAC (now British Airways).
The Chinese name for the company “國泰” comes from a Chinese idiom meaning “Grand and Peaceful State”, and it has it’s origins in 1940s Shanghai.
Turns out, now that we’re more focused on this kinda stuff, that Cathay is recognized one of the world’s three great airlines today along with Singapore Airlines and Emirates. And we were quite lucky to confirm frequent flyer seats on Cathay in First.
So it is with this beginning that we go forth on our grand around-the-world trip of 2013 — Hong Kong, Mumbai, Istanbul, and London. Four of the world’s greatest cities in 18 days, nearly 20,000 miles around the globe!
We are so glad that you’ll be with us for this trip. Each of you are so important to us and we’re thrilled to have you along.
