Well, dinner on Cathay is definitely an affair. It’s an elegant six course meal over a period of two hours. If you’re an airline employee with memories of First Class service from way back, Cathay will bring it back into focus.
After settling into our Suites (chairs that are three feet wide and will turn into seven foot long beds later on (yes, it’s true), dinner is served.
We started with cocktails and warm nuts. After getting past some tenacious turbulence over the Great Lakes, we moved onto the appetizer, the caviar and smoked salmon you see here. Yum. Double yum.
Next is the soup course, today is a nice apple-fennel soup with thyme.
Looks like we were tilting to the right there! Soup followed by an delicious Alaskan King Crab salad with lemon-lime dressing. One of the best salads I think I’ve had in years!
I had the steak, cooked to order. Steaks are usually dicey on a plane, but in this case it was delicious, tender, and perfectly cooked.
And on it goes! I skipped the cheese course (full!) and went right to dessert, bread pudding with berries, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate sauce
And then lastly, a nice glass of port with some pralines. The cabin had suddenly become very dark (we’re flying over northern Canada right now and so the sun has set for the winter in the Arctic)
Which brings us to the entertainment portion of the flight! For those in the know, the Gizmo is working great. See you at bed time!
