After a truly thrilling week in Zambia and Botswana it was time to leave the bush. This was one of the most interesting and enjoyable weeks we’ve ever had on vacation, and if you’re on the fence about going on a safari, jump off and do it. It was fun to meet new people, and it was incredible to be that close to wildlife you’ve ever only seen on TV. Bring a good camera, you’ll want good pictures.
Cape Town is nicknamed “The Mother City”
On our morning of our departure we were driven back to the Vumbura airstrip for our flight to Maun, Botswana. These were some lovely folks we met from Los Angeles and Dallas
Maun is a desert outpost of a town, straddling the Kalahari and the Okavango. So it’s pretty much filled with tourists either arriving for or departing from their safaris. You could easily picture there being a Star Wars Bar in town somewhere. We were in the international departures area, which was one room, one gate.
Our flight to Cape Town was non-stop, but was on the smallest of regional jets and it was 2 hours and 45 minutes in length. Ugh.
We survived, and once we arrived in Cape Town we passed through customs and immigration and were met by our driver. Cape Town is nicknamed “The Mother City” because it is the oldest established European community in South Africa, founded in 1652.
About 30 minutes after leaving the airport we arrived at our hotel in Camps Bay. This was our view one direction.
And then our view in the other direction. We could hear the surf rolling in from our room.
The room itself was spacious and lovely!
We have two full days to explore Cape Town!
