Aside from the highlighted animals we saw, we also saw a number of other animals at Vumbura.
We saw giraffe, lion, and warthog (cute!)
This is a tsessebe antelope, which we had never heard of before. It’s standing on a termite mound in order to get a better lay of the land.
We also saw an arresting set of birds. These two are Sacred ibis.
These are known as Goliath crane, which are the largest birds in Botswana.
This is a beautiful Saddle-billed stork.
These two are known as Swallow-tailed bee eaters. So gorgeous.
This last bird is called an African mourning dove. Despite the name it is not related to the mourning doves we see in North America.
One last interesting picture.
This was a field of mopane trees at one time. Mopanes are a favorite food of elephants and they strip them down to a certain height before moving on to the next for food. See how they’re all about the same height? You can always tell when elephants have been near when you see mopane trees stipped like these have been.
