We really loved Barcelona! If you haven’t been it’s an easy trip and one I think many people overlook in favor of more famous European destinations. But it’s a really great place to spend a vacation, with lots to see and do and great restaurants too!
Some final pictures that didn’t really deserve a separate post on their own.
The Arenas is a repurposed bull ring. It is located at the Placa Espanya and has been turned into a shopping center.
Speaking of Placa Espanya, here it is.
Adjacent to it is the National Museum, the Museo National d’Art de Catalunya. Really gorgeous from the outside, we just didn’t have time to get to the inside. Next time!
The famous La Rambla at night, still teeming with people!
The Barcelona City Museum was a great historical stop. People have been settled in and around Barcelona for over 2,000 years and this archeological museum takes you 12 meters down below the present day street level to show you early life in Barcelona. This picture is of an ancient wine-making operation.
The Pont del Bisbe (Bishop’s Bridge) looks medieval but actually was built in 1928. Nevertheless is blends in so nicely with the Gothic Quarter surroundings that it also looks medieval.
The Placa Reial looks very picturesque at night. It’s ringed by restaurants.
The Palau de la Generalitat in the Placa Sant Jaume also looks quite festive for the holidays.
Here is the Placa Sant Jaume during the day.
Then we have the girls waving from the balcony of the Erotic Museum on La Rambla. Also festive. Hah.
Here is the Arc de Triomf which was built as the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair.
Then we have a night photo of the Placa Catalunya. It was difficult to get a good picture of the whole plaza because it is hosting a Christmas market right now, but the fountains are quite beautiful.
Now a few notes about restaurants/bars. We had three standout places aside from Tickets. These were:
Taberna del Suculent in Raval where we were served by the funny Tomas.
Set in El Born with our server Jennifer (pronounced Yennifer!). Great tapas and even better drinks.
Bar Cañete was a standout because of an amazing mashed potato with duck egg dish we had. We nearly licked the bowl it was so good. If you aren’t putting egg yolk into your mashed potatoes you are missing out.
Lastly, there’s this. The quiet beauty of Barcelona.
Hurry, Barcelona is waiting for you!
