We arrived in Siem Reap after dark and were picked up by our pre-arranged Park Hyatt driver. The drive from the airport to town is only about 4km but takes about 30 minutes because you really can’t drive too fast with all the cyclos dodging in and out of traffic, plus it’s generally heavy traffic as you get closer to downtown Siem Reap.
And then you arrive at the sanctuary known as the Park Hyatt Siem Reap. It is a compound of calm and quiet in the middle of Siem Reap.
And once inside they whisk you away to the lounge where they take your information and take care of the checkin process.
In the meantime, in the courtyard of the hotel is a traditional Cambodian dance show complete with traditional garb.
And then they said two of our favorite words in the English language when you’re checking into a hotel: “further upgrade”. The full sentence was that you had confirmed a Park Suite but we have provided a “further upgrade” to our pool suite for you. Oooooh, yes please.
Here are some picture of Room 7.

Tub (or maybe Tub!)
Looking out to the pool (!).
And in our private courtyard, the pool.
We were starved so went to the traditional Cambodian restaurant near the courtyard. What a beautiful hotel this is.
It was noticeably hotter in Siem Reap than Bangkok (not even a wisp of a breeze!) so we dined inside.
It’s going to be a short night, we have a 4am wakeup call for our 5am driver so that we can see the sunrise over Angkor Wat. On the solstice.
