After settling into our new home in Kikunoya, we went out wandering in the nearby old town. It’s now filled with artisan shops and sweet shops (not bakeries and not candy stores) and one gelato shop where we sampled a flavor called Bamboo Charcoal which was Cacao & Cream Cheese.
After gobbling this down we walked around the old town and did a little shopping. One thing we were looking for was something to go with our coffee. Our ryokan owners had thoughtfully arranged to bring us an “American” breakfast in the morning, which consists of toast, soup, and salad. So you can see why we were working on alternatives (we found some cookies).
Old town Kanazawa is lovely — one of the few remaining geisha districts left in Japan. Here is a geisha house from the outside.
