Probably our least favorite place today was the Gateway of India. Surprising because it is the marquee tourist sight in Mumbai. But there were so many people hanging, the plaza so hot (I may have burst into flames as we took pictures, haven’t had a chance to look at my shirt yet), and the first place we encountered some nasty smells — mainly from the filthy bay water around the Gateway — that were enhanced by the heat. Ick.
As we walked towards the Gateway, we were acosted by a couple of guys just trying to make a living by pressing a dot on you, tying a piece of yarn around your wrist, handing you a flower, wishing you happy Diwali, and then asking for a “donation”. Sort of run-of-the-mill tourist acosting, but it was great because I got a picture of Jeff wearing a dot.
