In the Mt. Aspiring National Park is a special place where a glacier fed stream joins the larger creek and together they flow out to the Tasman Sea on the west coast. The water is so clear that the brown trout that swim in these waters look like they are suspended in air. We didn’t see any trout, but we did have a nice walk through the forest to the Blue Pools.
The ferns ran from very small to tree sized. Here is a tiny one surrounded by some even tinier ferns. The dark green one is about an inch wide.
After about a 1km walk you arrive at a very scary suspension foot bridge that bounces up and down as you walk it.
And then you get to the pools. Oh my were they beautiful. Look how clear the water is!
Here is a video that will give you a sense of the serenity of the place.
Another angle, this is of the creek that feeds the pools.
Down in the creek bed previous visitors had left inuksuks, which are widely used by the Inuit in Arctic Canada as trail markers. It was strange to see them here.
