Today was our day to knock around Sydney and get familiar with the city. So we set out from our hotel and walked through the surrounding neighborhood called The Rocks. It’s cute and there was a Saturday street market that we strolled through.
From there we walked past a beautiful old building that has been converted into a Westin hotel.
Onwards through one of the shopping arcades that are famous in Sydney.
You can even get a wash and a cut in here.
Then out and on to the Queen Victoria Building which was saved from destruction in the 1980s and has been turned into a shopping arcade as well.
Inside it looks like this. Here is a pic of looking up at the interior of the dome much like you do at Marshall Fields in Chicago.
The tilt shift treatment of this confection of a clock.
After this we walked to the Powerhouse Museum to see an Isabella Blow exhibit. That will be in a separate post, and our next stop was up to the top of the Sydney Tower for a 360 view of Sydney.
You can even look down at the roof of the Queen Victoria Building.
A view of the Harbor Bridge.
And then finally a look up the river to the west of Sydney.
Overall quite a nice day and I think we saw a good overview of Sydney. The most surprising thing we learned was just how hilly Sydney is. That was unexpected. Tomorrow, our last day in Sydney, we’re going to get up close with the Opera House, then see the Botanic Gardens, and lastly Mrs. McQuaries Chair. Stay tuned!
