Everyone says you have to make this day trip when you’re in Sydney so who were we to argue. This morning got up and got on a Sydney Transport train for a two hour ride to a town named Katoomba which is located in the Blue Mountains about 100km west of Sydney.
Things were a little hazy because there have been bush fires burning over the past couple of weeks.
But visibility was still pretty okay. We landed at a park named Scenic World, which is for those of us that don’t intend to hike the Blue Mountains but still want to experience them. So it was just us and about 10,000 Chinese tourists today. Staying ahead of the wave was our goal, which we mostly met but at times were ambushed.
They look harmless here but those girls have sharp elbows! This was a picture from what is claimed to be the world’s steepest railway and it is steep just maybe not a railway.
That’s down the side of the mountain. When you get to the bottom there is a walkway through the forest that’s quite lovely.
Back at the rim you can ride a scenic tramway from one rim to the other.
Where you get views like this.
After about an hour of seeing the sights we made our way back to the Katoomba train station for our ride back to Sydney.
It was a long day for what we saw but you kind of have to go in order to get a good look at the countryside around Sydney.
