After work yesterday we walked over to the L and rode out to O’Hare for our first leg to New York. As with other trips where we were flying truly special flights I booked us to arrive a day in advance so that we wouldn’t risk missing our connection. These are not flights you want to miss!
After a 30 minute taxi out at O’Hare to one of the new faaaaaar away runways (one is 7 miles away from the terminal!), and a quick 90 minute flight to LaGuardia we found ourselves in New York. Zipped through the terminal and cab line and even a superfast ride into Manhattan and walked into the lobby of the Andaz 5th Avenue.
We had stayed here before last year in their “Splash” suite, which is enormous, but this year they were sold out so only was able to confirm a deluxe room. But through the magic power of being a Hyatt Diamond, Gerardo our wonderful desk agent put us into a “Terrace” suite.
So we are now enjoying our lovely terrace in midtown Manhattan overlooking the corner of 5th Avenue & 41st Street. What a great start to the trip.
Not to be overlooked though, our trip here on United was once again quite nice. You can’t really expect the world on a 90 minute flight on a narrowbody aircraft but somehow Angel our flight attendant made us feel right at home. We left on time, arrived on time, aircraft was clean, crew was excellent, food served needs some work, but otherwise a top notch experience. I say this because United has taken a lot of fists to the nose over the last few years over service and timeliness but it appears things are turning around as my last few trips have all met their mark. Not just saying that because I work there!
OMG, tonight we leave for Australia. It’s soooo weird to say that. Today we’re going to play in New York and then later this afternoon head out to JFK to spend some time in the Virgin Clubhouse before we board our aircraft that will take us as far as Singapore.
