Right next to the bamboo forest and Tenryu-ji temple is the eastern end of the Sagano Railway, which is a tourist train that runs through the Hozu River gorge in the mountains west of Kyoto. It’s just a 20 minute ride, but wow was it beautiful! It was really tough to get a good picture because the train runs on some fairly old rails and was a bit bumpy, plus the beautiful maple trees that line the route got in the way a lot. Managed to pull out one, though.
When you come out the other side, you’ve left Kyoto entirely behind and are right in the middle of rice fields for as far as the eye can see.
