From the Hozu River gorge we headed to the other side of Kyoto, but made a stop at Kyoto Station to change trains. We decided to explore for lunch because the station is big and has an attached gigantic shopping mall. We figured it would be quick (running out of time!) and the station would provide options.
Inside the station you’ll find the mother of all staircases.
Fortunately right next to them is the mother of all escalator banks.
When you get to the top and turn around you get an idea of the scale of the visible part of the station.
It’s actually pretty easy to navigate for a station this large, so don’t be afraid of it if you come to Kyoto.
