Kanazawa has a central market that primarily sells fish and vegetables, but also has a variety of other food purveyors. The market has been here for 400 years.
We took a look at the fish, but were really on a hunt for two spices — something called shichimi, which is a spicy red pepper powder mixed with other hot spices and also wasabi-flavored salt.
Shichimi comes in little bottles like this and can be sprinkled on just about anything. We found both the shichimi and the wasabi salt in a local grocery store called Diamond. It was interesting to negotiate a Japanese grocery store!
