We arrived to our friend Lauren who met us at the train (she got a pass to the platform). Since we had been traveling all day we hadn’t had time for lunch so we walked over to a sushi place right next to the train station where the food is delivered on one of those little conveyor belts. So handy!
Jeff had the shrimp plate.
And then we went to Kikunoya, the ryokan that we had booked through Lauren. Kanazawa has been here since the 1300s, with this part of town dating to the 1800s.
Here’s our ryokan for the next two nights.
Jeff at the front door.
And then the inside. First the living room, which adjoins a nice outdoor garden.
The wooden contraption in the center if the room are the stairs that lead up to the second floor.
Up there we have the bedroom. The hosts showed us how to put together one of our futons for tonight.
And then there is a balcony that overlooks the garden down below.
It’s waaay too cute and our home for the next two nights!
