Once we got down off Mount Misery, we stopped at the Shinkyo Bridge, which is set just beautifully.
From here it’s a short walk up the hill to the temple area that has been there since the 1600s and are a gorgeous collection of temples and shrines. You’re able to wander around and through most of the temples (some are being rehabbed) and throughout the grounds. Magnificent cedars that were planted well over 100 years ago as part of a larger planting cycle that saw over 200,000 of them planted.
It all just had, this peaceful, spiritual feeling to it and it is just what you would imagine old Japan to look like. The gorgeous, gorgeous (can I say gorgeous one more time) cedars just lent a cathedral feeling to the entire place. Highly recommend this place if you come to Japan.
As we left we passed by one of those perfect Japanese maples that you see in pictures.
