Next week we’ll be setting off on our newest adventure to the amazing country of Egypt. This ancient land offers a remarkable blend of history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture and we intend to take in as much as we can.
Our itinerary will start in the ancient capital of Egypt, once known as Thebes, known today as Luxor. Some of the world’s most famous and incredible archaeological sites are found in and around Luxor. We’ll see as many as we can while we’re there.
The next phase of the trip will be a cruise up the Nile River on an Egyptian dahabiya. These boats are well known for their tall sails as they ply the Nile. This style of sailboat has been sailing the Nile since the time of Cleopatra. Even the famous Thomas Cook sold Nile cruises on dahabiyas since the late 1800s.
Then we’ll finish our trip in Cairo with the Great Pyramids before returning home. We’re already lamenting that there won’t be enough time to see all we want to in Cairo. Fingers are crossed that the new Grand Egyptian Museum will open for us. It’s been under construction for 20 years and has been rumored to be opening since before the pandemic.
We’re keeping an eye on the war in Gaza. As of now the State Department hasn’t issued any travel warnings apart from the areas of Egypt that have been unsafe for decades. Traveler accounts describe things in Egypt as business as usual. To be honest, there are places in the United States that scare us more than Egypt. That said we are normally very aware travelers and don’t do things we would consider risky.
So join us next week as we kick off this special trip! As always you can visit the blog daily or subscribe to get notified when there are new posts.
