We ate some beautiful meals in Paris, which is not difficult to do, and also managed to spend some time in a couple of great bars.
Our favorite was Dirty Dick’s in the 9th arrondissement. It’s a tiki bar, and who doesn’t love a tiki bar? Better yet, who doesn’t love a tiki bar in Paris?
We started with Mai Tais.
Then moved on to a Zombie and a Pain Killer.
Then finally (because wheels were coming off the tiki wagon and we had dinner reservations!), another Mai Tai for me and Three-Dots-and-a-Dab for Jeffrey.
So. Much. Fun. If you’re in Paris, run don’t walk to Dirty Dick’s!
We followed that with dinner at Le Bon Georges, also up in the 9th and walking distance from Dick’s. Dinner here was decidedly upmarket bistro.
Here was their full menu from the night we were there.
Jeff had the Tuna with ratattouille and I had the paleron of veal with apricots and veg.
Dessert was a yummy blueberry tart.
Le Bon Georges has 800 bottles on their wine list and even offers nine different kinds of chartreuse. Who knew there were nine?
The next night, we pretty much parked at La Coupole for drinks and dinner.
La Coupole is a grand old brasserie that is about 100 years old and has recently been brought back to life. It has always been known for its plateaus of seafood. We arrived early and were glad we did as there was a constant line to get in right up until we left.
Drink highlights were the Pimm’s Cup. Whenever you see that on a menu, you gotta order it.
We enjoyed those with a shrimp cocktail.
And, of course, a few oysters.
Dinner for me was a classic steak au poivre and for Jeffrey a delicious chicken fricassee.
Dessert had to be profiteroles!
It was really nice to be back at La Coupole.
On our last night in Paris we saved for our very favorite place, called Juveniles. First we went to a nearby bar called Danico for cocktails which cool and comfortable. I finally found a place that could make me a dry vodka martini!
Some potions they use to make some very creative specialty drinks.
After drinks, off to dinner! Juveniles is located in the 2nd and is a small bistro owned by a husband and wife who are putting out top notch meals night after night all the while while offering a beautiful wine list and gracious service.
Here is the menu from the night we were there.
Dinner here was started with burrata and fennel salad for me and a grilled mackeral for Jeffrey.
For our mains we had a gorgeous roasted veal with tiny little hasselback potatoes for me and a tuna steak with veg for Jeffrey.
Cheese course paired with a lovely amontillado. Cheeses were a Isle of Mull cheddar, a cow’s milk semi-soft from France, and then a lovely brie, also from France.
Finally dessert was a rice pudding with salted caramel sauce for me and pannacotta for Jeffrey. We paired both with a Crémemt de Bourgogne Blanc de blancs that was so creamy you’d want to bath in it. Incredibly delicious. Also, never have rice pudding without salted caramel.
Here is Margeaux, who we have known for several years as we have now been to Juveniles three times for dinner. If you go, make reservations – Margeaux speaks perfect English as she’s from the UK.
Once again a series of memorable meals in Paris that make incredible memories.
This was a wonderful way to finish our trip to Paris. Tomorrow we take a train to Brussels from where we fly home to Chicago. Thanks so much for coming along with us on this last minute trip. Hopefully we’ll see you in November for Turkey!
