There isn’t a huge selection of hotels in Kyoto — a number of properties known to Japanese travelers but for western travelers there is either the Westin Miyako or the Hyatt Regency. This means that both properties sell out very quickly and as a result room rates are generally sky high, especialy at peak times like cherry blossom season or in the autumn when leaves are changing.
During our stay the Hyatt is sold out and we were fortunate to get a room (booked six months ago) at the Hyatt points and cash rate which brings the cost way down. However, we are only in a standard room and as such it’s pretty basic and not roomy (28sq meters not roomy, FYI).
But the property is well located in central Kyoto and the grounds are beautiful. There is a stand of bamboo outside the front door and the lobby is pretty glamorous.
Out back there is a zen garden on one side, with a koi pond on the other side. Our view looks like this.
