All of the temples and the deer are located within an area called Nara Park, which is really a 300 year old forest that surrounds all of the historical temples and shrines.
In one area of the park is the Stone Lantern Walk. People can buy and build stone lanterns and place them along the walk.
The lanterns stretch for about a kilometer and I’m sure are beautiful when lit with candles.
The whole Nara experience is one of beauty — make sure you visit this place if you come to Kyoto.
