Osaka has been on our short list of places to visit in Japan for quite some time. It is known as “Japan’s Kitchen” and is famous for its food scene.
We got up early to leave Taipei and arrived at the Osaka airport by 12:45. It’s just a little more than two hours flying time from Taipei. The Osaka airport is famous because it is built on an artificial island created in Osaka Bay at a cost of $20 billion. The ride into Osaka is about an hour via train.
Once we settled into our hotel we headed out to sample some of Osaka’s nightlife.
We found a highly recommended tempura restaurant and it was really terrific. A nice selection pf seafood and veg and all priced at around $1-2 per piece. Throw in a couple of draft beers and dinner for two was $35.
From there we wandered around the famous Dotonbori area and found Sho, also known as the devil. Sho runs an eight seat bar in the area that serves nothing but whiskey.
The bar has been there for 70 years and was originally run by his father. We stayed for hours, probably should have been supervised.
For the next two days we are out wandering in Osaka.

Fun!
Oooo, what fancy things did you eat and drink?
That tempura was delightful. We had all the usual fried foods but the shrimp were the best! And then the whiskey bar we were drinking old fashioneds. Yikes.
