We took advantage of a full sunny and clear day to go up to the top of Montjuic. Montjuic is a hill located to the southwest of the city from which you have arresting views of Barcelona. You may recognize it as the site of many of the venues of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, most notably diving where is looked like the divers were jumping into space and not a pool. It is also the site of a fort called Castle of Montjuic.
The castle was used over the years as a location for executions all the way up until the 1940s during the Spanish Civil War.
It also has a commanding view of the Mediterranean.
But it is the city view that you can’t stop staring at when you’re at the top of Montjuic. Yes, that’s the Sagrada Familia in the middle of the photo!
The best way to reach the summit is by gondola. Just €12 round trip per person gets you a breathtaking ride to the top.
If you come to Barcelona then Montjuic is a don’t miss stop on a sunny day.
