An unexpected opportunity to head to Asia for the Chinese New Year. Flights were wide open and so standby became an option that we took. So a quick trip to San Francisco, a connection, and then we boarded our 14 1/2 hour flight to Taipei on United in Polaris.
Taipei normally is a tough destination because there is limited service to the island and so when you have the chance, you have to take it! Also, three words: Din Tai Fung.
We’ve arrived on the morning of Chinese New Year’s Day so it’s a quiet evening here. Activity should pick up starting tomorrow when we awake.
We’ll start here in Taipei and then in a few days head to Japan for the first time in five loong years. See you tomorrow as we explore this amazing place. Cross your fingers that we don’t come back looking like dumplings.
